The plaque remembers the friendship between France and the US thought the YMCA centers in France during WW1.

The inscription on the plaque is written in French and English. The English reads:


IN COMMEMORATION
OF THE HEROIC DAYS OF THE GREAT WAR
WHEN THE SONS OF FRANCE
AND THE SONS OF AMERICA
SIDE BY SIDE GAVE THEIR LIVES
FOR LIBERTY
THIS TABLET IS  PLACED BY THE 
YOUNG MANS CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF THE UNITED STATES

HERE STOOD ONE OF THE 1600 FOYERS DU SOLDAT
OF THE UNION FRANCO-AMERICAINE
CREATED WITH THE COOPERATION OF THE AMERICAN YMCA
