5th Infantry Divsion Mosel River Crossing Memorial Mural

In the Parcours Historic (Historic Walk) area along the Mosel (Moselle) River walking path. Commemorative Object
A large concrete wall (About 18 feet tall) with a mural painted on the front and back; the base is frond in the shape of the 5th Infantry Division symbol - the "Red Diamond".
The mural remembers the courageous crossing of the Mosel (Moselle) River 11th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division supported by the 7th Armored Division in September 1944. The mural depicts a river boat crossing and the backside includes one star for each casualty during this operation.
The memorial is located where the crossing occurred in September 1944. The adjacent historic walk provides maps, photos and perspective on the crossing operation. In Dornot, across the river, the historic walk covers nearside operations. See site Dornot-Corny.
The memorial was dedicated in September 2024 by the "Thanks GIs" organization.
