B-24 (42-73416) Crash Memorial - 98th Bomber Group

In front of the church next to the town war memorial. Monument
A large fieldstone with an inscribed brass plaque attached to the front.
The memorial remembers the crew of B-24 (42-73416) of the 344th Bomber Squadron, 98th Bomber Group, 15th Air Force which was shot down near here on May 29th, 1944 after a mission to Weiner Neustadt, Austria. Four of the crew were KIA; the others were taken prisoner.
The memorial was dedicated in 2012 in the presence of one of the crew members.

Zum Gedenken an die am 29.5.1944
in Fischbach abgestürzte amerikanische Flugzeugbesatzung.
Vier Soldaten der 15. US - Air Force fanden dabei den Tod.
In memory of the aircrew of the 15th. US Air Force who crash landed in the vicinity of Fischbach on May 29th. 1944. Four of the Airmen lost their lives and seven survived.
