Monument

A monument constructed from rough stone and brick features a circular metal plaque displaying portrait of Staff Sergeant Isadore S. Jachman, along with biographical text in both English and French that outlines his military service and the heroic actions that earned him a posthumous Medal of Honor. A World War II-era U.S. Army helmet is positioned at the top of the structure. The monument was inaugurated on January 4, 2025, and was conceived, constructed, and dedicated by Jos Bex.

Berlin Germany December 14, 1922 Cochleval Belgium January 4, 1945.

Jachman was a US 17th Airborne staff sergeant who was killed in World War II during the attack aimed to capture the village of Flamierge.

Staff Sergeant Jachman, Company B, 513th Parachute Infantry Regiment and his company were pinned down by enemy artillery, mortar and small arms fire. Two hostile tanks that attacked the unit, inflicting the heavy casualties. Sergeant Jachman left his place of cover, dashed across open ground through a hail of fire and grabbed a bazooka from a fallen comrade. He then advanced on the tanks, which concentrated their fire on him. Firing his weapon, he damaged one tank and forced both tanks to retire. Staff Sergeant Isadore Siegfried Jachman was hereby killed in action nearby this spot on January 4, 1945. For his conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity, above and beyond the call of duty: he receieved the Medal of Honor. He is buried at Adath Israel Cemetery in Baltimore City, MD.

Le Staff Sergent JACHMAN parachutiste dans la 17ème division aéroportée américaine, fut tué lors de lattaque visant à conquérir le village de Flamierge.

Alors que le 1er bataillon était bloqué par des tirs dartilleries, de mortiers, de mitrailleuses et darmes légères ennemis à hauteur de la nationale 4, deux chars allemands sortirent du brouillard, infligeant de lourdes pertes aux parachutistes. Le Sergent JACHMAN quitta alors son abri et se précipita en terrain découvert pour attraper le bazooka dun camarade tombé. Sous un déluge de feu, il savança seul contre les char allemands et en endommagea un, les forçant à se retirer. Repéré, JACHMAN fut malheureusement abattu par un tir darme automatique. Pour bravoure exceptionnelle et intrépidité, au-delà de lappel du devoir, il reçu à titre posthume, la <<Medal of Honor>>, plus haute distinction militaire amèricaine. Il repose au cimetière Adath Israel à Baltimore City, Maryland. Passant, soviens toi du Staff/Sergent ISADORE SIEGFRIED JACHMAN tuè au combat pour la liberté à proximité de ce lieu le 4 janvier 1945.
