OSS Group Pat Cap Au Vent Train Action Marker

<< Back to Labruguiere -Cap au Vent

Details:

At the Y in the road.

Marker

A large boulder with a plaque attached to the front.

The memorial remembers the French Resistance and OSS Operation to sabotage an enemy train on August 19, 1944.  The mission was a success with one French  Maquisard killed in action.

From the OSS Society Facbook page:

A ceremony was held Cap au Vent, France, the site of the derailment of the 44-carriage German train seeking to retreat from Mazamet to Castres, carrying weapons, munitions, soldiers and loot. It was derailed by the expert explosives skills of OSS Operational Group PATs Captain, 22-year-old Conrad Lagueux.

A long firefight ensued, ending when the local Resistance fired a mortar that hit the heavily-loaded train. The Germans eventually surrendered. Sixty were taken prisoner. One member of the maquis was killed and is remembered in this ceremony.
