Commemorative Object

At one corner of the hall hangs a painting of German Field Marshall Wilhelm Keitel approaching the table at Berlin-Karlshorst, Germany, to sign the Act of Unconditional Military Surrender on 8 May 1945. At head of main table are (left to right) British Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Tedder (signed on behalf of Supreme Commander, Allied Expeditionary Force), Marshal of the Soviet Union Georgiy Zhukov, US witness General Carl Spaatz (Commander of Strategic Air Forces in Europe), and Provisional Government of the French Republic witness General Jean de Lattre de Tassigny (Commander, First French Army).
