Plaque

An engraved marble plaque.

The memorial remembers Staff Sergeant Andrew A. Solock, Ball Turret Gunner on the B-24 (42-52313) 'Rough Cobb' of the 737th Bomber Squadron, 454th Bomber Group, 15th US Air Force flying out of San Giovanni, Italy was killed in action on August 29, 1944, during Mission 263 in the "Air Battle over the White Carpathian Mountains".

S/SGT Solock was temporarily buried in this cemetery after his plane crashed nearby (See Site: Nemsova - Chateau Antonstal, Memorial: B-24 'Rough Cobb' (42-52313) Crash Memorial-Mission 263 for more on this aircraft). A cenotaph in this cemetery also remembers S/SGT Solock.

S/SGT Solock was repatriated in 1946 and is now buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial in St. Avold, France (Plot E, Row 29, Row 4).
