B-17 'Strictly from Hunger' (42-97350) Crew Execution Memorial Cross

On the wooded path about 200 meters from the second memorial.
MonumentA large wooden inscribed cross, about 7 feet tall.
The memorial remembers the B-17 'Strictly from Hunger' (42-97350) of the 365th Bomber Squadron, 305th Bomber Group was on a mission on July 21, 1944 flying from Station 105 (Chelveston) to Mannheim. The plane was hit by flak on returning and the crew successfully bailed out. Several of the crew were executed upon surrendering while other were executed while be taken away from the crash site.
1Lt Leonard A Kornblau, 2Lt Bernard E Radomski, 2Lt Charles E Woolf , S/Sgt Meredith M Mills Jr, S/Sgt Frank L Misiak were murdered after surrendering. Three flyers while being marched from Urach to Schollach were killed .Two other flyers were led from the Schollach City Hall to woods locally know as Winterwald and shot and killed.
The perpetrators were tried in Nuremburg; several imprisoned and one executed.
