The plaque remembers the 761st Tank Battalion which was stationed here after the 'Battle of the Bulge' in February 1945. In February 1945, the 761st Tank Battalion ("Black Panthers") was in a period of transition, moving out of intense combat in the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) to reorganize and refit before pushing into Germany. The plaque remembers this unit and their subsequent push into Germany and liberation of a concentration camps.
