C-47 Airborne Operations Memorial Panel

<< Back to Picauville C-47 Memorial

Details:

On the rear wall of the main monument.

Monument

An interpretive memorial panel mounted on the rear wall of the monument, shaped like a parachute canopy with suspension lines, symbolizes the airborne paratroopers involved in the D-Day operations. At the center of the panel is a map indicating the crash locations of several C-47 Skytrain aircraft around Picauville, while surrounding informational sheets provide details about the aircraft, missions, crews, and paratroopers associated with those incidents. Additional small portrait photographs of airmen are displayed beside and below the panel, further commemorating those who were killed during the airborne operations in Normandy in June 1944.
