Isolated Burial

An inscribed  gravestone.

 

The Isolated buurial of Private Thomas Shannon who served with the 165th Infantry Regiment, 42nd 'Rainbow' Divsion during World War 1. Shannon was born in Iraland near this cemetery and immigrated to New York in 1909.  He was reported to have died of wounds on August 12, 1918; the 165th Regiment fought at the Battle of the Ourq in late July 1918. Remains returned to Ireland in 1921 on the SS Orloch Head.
