The inscription is in Dutch and reads:

Deze militair van de 101st Airborne Division zit voor Kasteel Henkenshage.
Het is op deze plek dat op 25 september 1944 de Britse generaal Horrocks vernam dat Operatie Market Garden gestopt zou gaan worden.
Een dag later gebeurde dat datdwerkelijk.
