There is also a plaque on the ground commemorating Veghels liberation on 17 September 1944 by the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment with other units following an intense battle from 22 to 24 September. Under a stone is an urn containing soil from the 50 States of the U.S.A. Beside the Memorial are two benches donated by the Friends of the Airborne. On each 17th September, or the nearest Sunday, wreaths are laid and flags are flown.
