Monument

A large natural stone boulder bears a rectangular metal commemorative plaque mounted on its front face. Inscribed in both English and German, the plaque commemorates the liberation of Bad Bergzabern by soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 143rd Infantry Regiment, 36th U.S. Infantry Division on March 22, 1945. It also features the insignia of the 36th Infantry Division, known as the "Texas Division." In recognition of this historic connection, Texans and current or former members of the 36th Infantry Division are granted free admission to the museum. The monument was installed on May 24, 2026.

In Commemoration of the End of
the War in Bad Bergzabern


On March 22nd, 1945, American
soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 143rd
Regiment of the 36th US Infantry
Division entered Bergzabern.

The town was thus liberated from
Nazi rule.
