MonumentThe monument comprises an upright marble stone topped by an engraving of the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade shoulder patch, and includes an inscription remembering the AH-64D Apache helicopter crew members who died during operations over Afghanistan in 2012.
On 28 May 2012, a US Army AH-64D Apache (05-07012, aircrew callsign ASSASSIN-19) from the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, based in Ansbach-Katterbach, Germany, crashed in Wardak Province, eastern Afghanistan, during a routine patrol. Both crew members died of wounds sustained in the crash.
