2LT Malcolm G. Vande Water was born in New York City in 1894; he worked as a newspaper man prior to the war. He was killed while training with the Royal Air Force in the 29th Training Depot Station. On October 28, 1918 while flying his Sopwith Camel, his machine gun cut his plane's propeller in half resulting in a fatal crash.
