A wooden printed plaque includes crossed U.S. and German flags, the 502d Infantry Regiment crest, and the emblem of Zehlendorf District of Berlin, with inscriptions in English and German. The plaque is one from U.S. Berlin Brigade units expressing appreciation for support from local communities, presented during Berlin Brigade withdrawal ceremonies in 1994.

The Berlin Brigade was a US Army brigade-sized unit based in West Berlin during the Cold War. After the end of World War II, under the conditions of the Yalta and Potsdam agreements, the Allied forces from the U.S., United Kingdom, France, and the Soviet Union (later Russian Federation) occupied sectors of Berlin. Under the treaties that enabled the reunification of Germany, all non-German military forces were required to leave Berlin. The Berlin Brigade was officially inactivated by President Bill Clinton on 6 July 1994.
