The memorial marks the location where Co-Pilot 2LT Albert Morris Karman was found after parachuting from the B-17 The Old Lady' (42-102944) of the 414th Bomber Squadron, 97th Bomber Group, 15th Air Force after being shot down on August 27, 1944. The mission that day was to bomb the strategic synthetic oil refineries at Blechhammer, Germany (now Blachownia lska, Poland). 2LT Karman was the only crewman who perished in the crash.  Nine of the other crew were taken as POW; one evaded capture.

The inscription on the plaque is in Czech and it reads:

pezdívaný ,,Old Lady" co-pilot

v dsledku pokození padáku. Zasaený bombardér pi
náletu na polské rafinerie dopadl v katastru
obce tiavník na Slovensku. Ostatních 10 len posádky
se na padácích zachránilo.

FOR A FALLEN AIRMAN
In the valley of Velký Kobylík he died
on 27.8.1944 after jumping from an American
bomber B 17 G ,,Flying Fortress"
nicknamed "Old Lady" co-pilot

as a result of parachute damage. The bomber was struck by the
a raid on a Polish refinery landed in a crashed in
the village of Stiavnik, Slovakia. The other 10 crew members
survived by parachute.
