Situated across from the 1st Infantry Division monument.

The installation is a large, modern orange interpretive structure composed of angular, folded metal panels, installed in Alter Park on the former grounds of Leighton Barracks. Its irregular geometric form incorporates historic photographs and explanatory text about Victory Park, Leighton Chapel, the 1st and 3rd U.S. Infantry Divisions, and the Fallen Soldier Memorial, including large photographic views of the former military site and its monuments. The installation serves as a historical interpretive memorial/display commemorating the former U.S. Army presence at Leighton Barracks and preserving the history of Victory Park and the American units once stationed in Würzburg.

MILITÄRISCHE DENKMÄLER 

Im Alten Park, von den Amerikanern »Victory Park« genannt,
befanden sich militärische Denkmäler, von denen nach der
Entfernung der Figuren beim Abzug der US-Truppen noch die
Sockel erhalten sind. Eine Statue zeigte die Siegesgöttin,
eine andere einen Soldaten. Der Park war bereits 1965 als
»Marne Garden« von der 3. US-Infanteriedivision zur Ehrung
von hochdekorierten Angehörigen der Division eröffnet worden.

MILITARY MONUMENTS

In the Old Park, called Victory Park by the Americans,
there were military monuments whose pedestals still remain
after the figures were removed when U.S. troops withdrew.
One statue depicted the Goddess of Victory, while another
depicted a soldier. The park had already been opened in 1965
as the Marne Garden by the 3rd U.S. Infantry Division to
honor highly decorated members of the division.
