A rectangular white commemorative marker mounted on a post bears inscriptions in German, French, and Dutch. The marker explains that the memorial was erected at the initiative of Eupen resistance members of the American Legions Service D to commemorate the liberation of the region by the U.S. Army in 1944. It is dedicated to the U.S. 1st Infantry Division in recognition of its role in halting the German winter offensive of 194445. The marker also notes that the memorial incorporates stones from the United States, Normandy, and the Ardennes and was unveiled on June 2, 1984.

GEDENKSTEIN 

Errichtet auf Initiative der Eupener Wideständler des ,,Service D'' der ,,American Legion,, zur Erinnerung an die Befreiung  der Region durch die amerikanische Armee 1944.

Gewidmet ist der Stein der amerikanischen 1. Division, die im Winter 1944-45 die Rundstedt-Offensive zum Stehen brachte.

Das Denkmal - aus Stein aus den USA, der Normandie und den Ardennen - wurde am 2. Juni 1984 enthüllt. 

PIERRE COMMÉMORATIVE 

Erigeé à linitiative des résistants eupenois du « Service D  » de l' « American Legion » en souvenir de la libération de la  région par larmée américaine en 1944. 

Dédiée à la memoire de la 1re division américaine qui, pendant lhiver 1944-45, arreta loffensive de Rundstedt. 

Le monument - compose de pierre provenant des États-Unis, de Normandie et des Ardennes - fut inauguré le 2 juin 1984.

Opgericht op initiatief van de Eupense verzetslui van de « Service D » van de « American Legion » in herinnering aan de bevrijding van de streek door het Amerikaans leger in 1944.

De gedenksteen is opgedragen aan de 1ste Amerikaanse divisie, die in de winter van 1944-1945 het von Rundstedt offensief tegenhield.

Het monument gebouwd uit stenen afkomstig uit Amerika, uit Normandië en uit de Ardennen werd ingewijd op 2 juni 1984.

MEMORIAL STONE

Erected on the initiative of the Eupen resistance fighters of Service D of the American Legion to commemorate the liberation of the region by the American army in 1944.

The stone is dedicated to the American 1st Division, which halted the Rundstedt Offensive in the winter of 1944-45.

The memorial - made of stone from the USA, Normandy and the Ardennes - was unveiled on 2 June 1984.
