A stone plaque with French text commemorating the site of a WWI American hospital. Per "American Armies in Europe" (1938) Beaune included a hospital center,and general storage depot. After the armistice the AEF established a University which was attended by 9000 soldiers.

Camp Américain 1918-1919 Sur ce quartier larmée Américaine a construit les baraquements qui abritèrent successivement : en 1918 en hôpital de 20,000 lits pour ses blessées ramener du front. En 1919 une université qui rassembla plus de 6000 militaires étudiants et leurs professeurs. Beaune, le 24 juin 1979.

 

ENGLISH TRANSLATION: American Camp 1918-1919 In this neighborhood the American Army constructed the barracks which served successively as: in 1918 a 20,000 bed hospital for wounded transported here from the front; in 1919 a university which assembled more than 6000 military students and their professors.
