5th Infantry Division Moselle River Crossing Monument

Details:

In a small recreation area on the Moselle River off of the D657.  About a kilometer north of Corny-sur-Moselle.  Immediately on the eastern side of the river.  Near a marker for PFC Jerome Deneen and the the Infantry Division Parcours Historique (Historic Walk). Marker


A one meter high rectangular yellowish stone monument with a "Red Diamond" - symbol of the 5th Infantry Division and the 7th Armored Division symbol, that marks the spot where the 5th Infantry Division crossed the Moselle River with the support of the 7th Armored Division to create the Dornot Bridgehead.

The memorial is located at the exact location of the 1944 crossing site.

The historic walk provides maps and perspectives on the crossing; another Historic Walk is located in Dornot on the other side of the river; see Site Dornot-Corny.
