<< Back to Thiaucourt - Monument aux Morts

Details:

In the town center of Thiaucourt, France, on the town's War Monument. Approximately 2km east of the St. Mihiel American War Cemetery.

Monument

A bronze statue depicting an American WWI soldier and a French soldier shaking hands stands as a symbol of gratitude for the towns liberation by Pershings First Army. The American figure was modeled after Captain Oliver B. Cunningham of the 15th Field Artillery, 2nd Division, who was killed near Thiaucourt. The sculpture is mounted on an obelisk-shaped stone monument.

A plaque on the sides remembers the liberation of Thiacourt by the 2nd and 89th Infantry Divisions. A braised relief brass shows the American Army crossing the bridge in Thiacourt.
