5th Infantry Division Sauer River Crossing Memorial
Details:
This monument is located along a bike path that follows the Sauer River and can be found about 30m north of a pedestrian (wooden) bridge in a small clearing.
The memorial remembers the 5th Infantry Division crossing of the Sauer (Sūre) River in February 1945.
Monument Text:
The text on the first plaque reads:
"IN HONOR OF THE 5TH U.S. INFANTRY DIVISION
WHICH CROSSED THE SAUER RIVER HERE ON FEBRUARY 7 1945 UNDER HEAVY ENEMY FIRE AND ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS. THEIR SACRIFICES HELPED TO BRING FREEDOM AGAIN TO OUR COUNTRY .
WE SHALL REMEMBER."
The text on the second plaque reads:
"THIS MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ERECTED BY DONATIONS FROM U.S. VETERANS AND BY LUXEMBOURGISH CITIZENS"
