This monument is found along the roadside in a small clearing near the Sauer River.


Monument

The monument itself is a large stone about 5ft (1.5m) in height with a metal plaque in memory of the units in the 80th infantry division that crossed the Sauer river at this site.

The memorial remembers the 80th Division crossing os the Sauer (Sūre) River in February 1945 at this location.

The plaque text reads:

"80th U.S. INFANTRY DIVISION
IN HONOR OF UNITS OF THIS DIVISION WHICH CROSSED THE FLOODED SAUER RIVER HERE ON FEBRUARY 7, 1945 DESPITE ADVERSE WEATHER AND INTENSE ENEMY FIRE.
THEIR SACRIFICES HELPED TO RESTORE FREEDOM TO OUR COUNTRY
WE SHALL NEVER FORGET

THE GRATEFUL CITIZENS OF DILLENGEN (COMMUNE DE BEAUFORT) U.S. VETERANS FRIENDS LUXEMBOURG"
