On the southward face of the remains of a 15th century watchtower in a neighborhood park of Montebourg. Commemorative Object Three plaques, one with French writing, one with the English translation, and another with the insignia of the 4th Infantry Division.

COME FROM THE RUINED

XVTH CENTURY FORTRESS

OF ST MARCOUF-LES-GOUGINS.

IT WAS SET UP HERE IN 1980,

YEAR FOR THE PRESERVATION

OF THE NATIONAL PATRIMONY,

IN HONOUR OF THE GLORIOUS FIGHTERS

OF THE 4TH AMERICAN DIVISION,

WHO LIBERATED MONTEBOURG

ON JUNE 19TH 1944,

AFTER 13 DAYS OF DESPERATE FIGHTS.
