2nd Infantry Division Stele

Details:

This stele is located in the median which separates N62 from a smaller residential street. It is located just south of the intersection between Silvio Gesell Strasse and N62. Monument This black granite stele rests on a concrete base and features the division's "Indianhead" insignia as well an a commemorative message in English dedicated to the casualties of the Battle of the Bulge. The same insignia and message are displayed on both the north and south sides of the monument.  The 2nd Infantry Division played a crucial role for the United States Armed Forces during the Battle of the Bulge. Along with the 99th Infantry Division, the 2nd fought against Joachim "Kampfgruppe" Peiper, a German field officer. The unit ultimately succeeded in breaking through the German line and reached the Rhine River on March 9, 1945. This monument is part of series of similar monuments erected by the 2nd Infantry Division.
