505th Parachute Infantry Regiment Plaque
Details:
The plaque is located near the southern side (the side closest to the church) of the Trois-Ponts park near two other plaques dedicated to units of the United States Army. Plaque This dark metal plaque is mounted on a dark field stone and has faded gold lettering and features the insignia of the 82nd Airborne Division as well as the insignia of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment. The French inscription commemorates the courage of the 505th PIR in the face of a strong German offensive. The fighting at Trois-Ponts was essential for preventing the German forces in the area from reaching the Meuse River.
