Crossers Plaque
Details:
This plaque is located on the right hand side of the monument at the Vielsalm lakeside site. Plaque This thin silver metal plaque is attached to a gray field stone. The top of the plaque features the insignia of four different American military units. From left to right, they are: the 7th Armored Division, the 106th Infantry Division, the 9th Armored Division, and the 112th Infantry Regiment. The plaque's bilingual English and French inscription commemorates the crossing of the bridge over the Salm River between Rencheux and Vielsalm and the subsequent liberation of the town and the entirety of Belgium. The crossing of the Rencheux Bridge was an important step in gaining eastward momentum for the Allies and ultimately winning the war.
