General John Vessey Plaque

The plaque is located at the top of the left wall in the Comune building entryway.

Plaque

The plaque is made of white marble with inscriptions in red. In is about 2 feet by 3 feet.

 

The community of Mignano Montelungo placed this plaque to commemorate the visit of US General John Vessey, who at the time was the Vice Chief of Staff of the US Army (he would later be the Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff) and General Luigi Poli, the Vice Chief of Staff of the Military, both veterans of World War 2 who both fought on the nearby battlefield of Monte Lungo. General Vessey was an artilleryman in the 34thInfantry “Red Bull” Division –  Minnesota National Guard during the war.
