Monte Pantano – 75th Anniversary Plaque (34th Infantry Division)

On a wall of the main square adjacent to the town brewery (birrificio).

Plaque

A white metal plaque with black writing and colored symbols. 

 

The plaque remembers the participants of the very difficult battle of Monte Pantano which occurred in late November – December 1943. Monte Pantano was located on the German Defensive line known as the “Bernhard Line”.  The Bernhardt line lied just before the main German Defensive line known as the Gustav or Winter Line. The US 34th Infantry Division – The “Red Bull” Division participated in this hard fought battle.  (See this website Monte Pantano for more on this battle). The Local Winter Line Museum in Venafro also has detailed displays of this battle.
