Details:

On the north side of the road, right at the hilltop. Marker A square white cobblestone base with the insignia of the 3rd US Army built into the base with bricks. A rough fieldstone holds a plastic plaque which shows the US flag, the insignia of the 87th Division, and text in German and English.


The memorial erected in 2014 by the Friends of Patton's 26th Infantry Division (FPYD- Luxembourg).

87th U.S. Infantry, 3rd U.S. Army

 

Einheiten der 87. U.S. Infanterie-

division (346.Regiment) befreiten den

Grenzort Wasserbillig am 23. Januar 1945.

Drei Tage später,am 26. Januar,befreiten

sie das Öslinger Dorf Huldange

mit der bekannten "Burrigplatz".

Mit der Sicherung dieser

beiden Orte hatten die tapferen Soldaten

ohne ihr Wissen den tiefsten und

den höchsten Punkt des

Großherzogtums Luxemburg

innerhalb von drei Tagen befreit.

 

Units of 87th U.S. Infantry Division, 346th Regiment

liberated the border town of Wasserbillig

on January 23rd, 1945. Three days later,

on January 26th, 1945 they liberated the

Ösling village of Huldange with the

well-known Castle Square. By securing

these two locations within three days,

these brave soldiers had liberated,

without knowing, the highest and the lowest

points of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
