Plaque

A stainless steel plaque inscribed in English text incised in black lettering with 5 various ship images of the US Coast Guard. The plaque commemorates the contribution made by members of the United States Coast Guard in the D-Day operations. An additional plaque which was installed in 1995 and is placed below the main plaque.

GRATEFULLY DEDICATED TO THE BRAVE MEN OF THE
UNITED STATES COAST GUARD
Who participated in the invasion of Normandy
6th June 1944
 
U.S.C.G. personnel crewed 97 British and American attack transports, and landing ships,
crewed landing craft at all beach heads and provided the sole D-Day Maritime Rescue Service, often
under the severest fire. The U.S.C.G. saved the lives of
1,438 Allied Servicemen in the Normandy Assault
area during the invasion.
