On the south side of the churchyard and on the right-hand side next to the stone monument war memorial.


Plaque

A square metal plaque on top of a stone base that is set on the ground. The plaque is inscribed in English in yellow lettering. A medical symbol is printed on the top of the plaque while the 8th Air Force insignia is on the bottom. The plaque commemorates the crew of the B-24 #42-95238 who died in a crash at the grounds of St. Mary’s Hospital during a training mission in August 1944.

IN MEMORY OF THE TEN GALLANT AMERICAN

AIRMEN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES WHEN THEIR PLANE

CRASHED ON 18TH AUGUST 1944 IN THE GROUNDS OF

ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL, BURGHILL.
