Block D, SW Corner Plaque
Details:
Within the northeast corner of the park. The plaque is missing and instead, a hole, at least a meter deep, can be found where the plaque must have been placed.
On June 6, 1994, sixteen plaques were unveiled to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Each plaque is shaped like an open book, with a page number from 1-16, and marks the positions of each corner of the 4 blocks, A-D. The plaque bears the inscription (on the left page) and Stars and Stripes above a blank area (on the right). The inscription is in English in incised lettering. Block D was the last of the four blocks to be completed, being ready for occupation on March 13, 1943. The inscriptions on the plaques for blocks A, B, and D are all the same, other than the “.. north east corner of ‘A’ block ..” sections. The inscriptions on the plaques for block C are all the same, other than the “.. north east corner ..” sections.
