Isolated Burial

A civilian burial tomb, slightly elevated off the ground with engraved plaques on top.

PFC Joseph “Joe” Farina was from Highland Park, Illinois.  He served with B Company, 526th Armored Infantry Battalion.  Joe’s parents were from Italy and during his tour in Belgium he befriended the Pacchiotti Family, an Italian-Belgian family, in Hamoir, Belgium.  He wrote his parents that should he be killed in combat, he would like to be buried in Belgium near his friends.

During the Battle of the Bulge, The 526th AIB was attached to the 10th Armored Division.  Farina was killed near Malmedy on January 5, 1945.  He was initially buried in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, but in 1948, per his request, he was buried at the Pacchiotti Family Plot in the St. Clément Church Cemetery in Comblain-la-Tour district of Hamoir.
