A standard upright US Military white inscribed gravestone, mounted on a gray square stone with the name Herlihy inscribed on the front.

 


Private First Class Michael Herlihy was born in Mount Falvey, Scartaglen, County Kerry in 1929. He immigrated to America where he joined the U.S. Army 38th Infantry Regiment “Rock of the Marne”, 2nd Infantry Division.

He was killed in action in North Korea near Hill 868 during the Battle of "Bloody Ridge” on September 12, 1951. 

 

A fellow Irish soldier, Private First Class Philip Lynch, was also a member of the 38th Infantry Regiment and was KIA at the "Battle of the Bloody Ridge".  See site Kilconly Cemetery, ISOB Lynch for more on Lynch.
