Inside the library.
A shield-shaped bronze plaque with sculptured relief of a winged propeller on the top and the 8th Air Force insignia on the bottom. The plaque is inscribed in English text, in raised and yellow lettering. It commemorates the 10 men who were killed in the crash of their B24H Liberator #42-95023 on August 12, 1944. The crash site lies just west of the A10 on the opposite side to Cheshunt (between the A10 and the New River). The plane had a technical malfunction of all four engines. All ten crew members died and one girl recovered from a coma. A similar plaque can be found in the American War Cemetery near Cambridge.
