Col. Virgal E. Sansing Plaque
Details:
Mounted on the wall to the right of the entrance door of the town hall.
A small rectangular plaque featuring a photo and a commemoration message for Col. Sansing. It is printed in French text and below the message are the images of the 8th Air Force and a P-51 Mustang.
Col. Sansing was shot down in June 1944 while flying a P-51 Mustang. After parachuting out of the aircraft, Sansing landed in Puiseux-en-Retz and went into hiding, helped by members of the French Resistance until he returned safely to his base in England. His airplane crashed near Compiegne.

En remerciement aux habitants de
Puiseux-en-Retz qui ont protégé de
l'ennemi « Sandy Sansing » quand il a
été forcé de sauter en parachute de son
P-51 MUSTANG qui avait été touché
par la FlaK lors d'une mission d'attaque
d'un train de troupes allemandes le 20
juin 1944.
English translation:
In thanks to the residents of
Puiseux-en-Retz who protected from
the enemy "Sandy Sansing" when he
was forced to parachute from his
P-51 MUSTANG that had been hit
by the FlaK during an attack mission
of a German troop train on the 20th
June 1944.
