General Yamashita Surrender Site, WWII Marker – US 6th Army

Next to the Peace Sign in front of an old school house above the road.
A Philippine Historic Marker, black, with white lettering.
The memorial remembers the surrendering of General Tomoyuki Yamashita “The Tiger of Malaya” and all the Japanese forces to the US 6th Army (units of the 32nd Infantry Division) on September 2, 1945. The official surrender occurred the next day at Camp John Hay in the Philippines.

SURRENDER OF GENERAL YAMASHITA
ON THIS SITE, GENERAL TOMOYUKI YAMASHITA TOGETHER WITH HIS STAFF, SURRENDERED TO THE ELEMENTS OF THE U.S. 6TH ARMY IN THE MORNING OF SEPTEMBER 2, 1945. THE FINAL SURRENDER CEREMONY TOOK PLACE THE FOLLOWING DAY AT THE HIGH COMMISSIONER'S RESIDENCE, CAMP JOHN HAY, BAGUIO 202 CITY.
