2Lt Carl H. Bundgaard Plaque
Details:
On the wall to the left of the entrance gate of the house.
A white metal plaque in plexiglass that is inscribed with a commemoration message written in French in blue and printed lettering. On July 4, 1944, during a bomber escort to Saumur, 2Lt Bundgaard’s plane experienced a mechanical failure. 2Lt Bundgaard was able to bail out and landed safely at 3 Rue du Four. Through the help of the French Resistance, he returned to England on July 28, 1944, from Le Blanc aerodrome.
Note: The inscribed word Whitee should be Withee (name of the village).

ICI le 4 Juillet 1944, le Lieutenant pilote de I' US Air Force Carl BUNDGAARD Whitee[sic], (Ètat de Wisconsin, USA) est tombé en parachute aprés que son avion de chasse ait été abattu.
Aidé par la Résistance Française locale, il regagna l'Angleterre pour poursuivre le combat avec son escadrille.

HERE on July 4, 1944, the Lieutenant pilot of the US Air Force Carl BUNDGAARD Whitee[sic], (State of Wisconsin, USA) landed by parachute after his fighter plane was shot down.
Aided by the local French Resistance, he returned to England to continue the fight with his squadron.
