Monument

An upright stone monument on a one-step base bearing a rectangular black plaque that is inscribed with a commemoration message and names of the crew of the airplane written in French in gold and engraved lettering. The monument was erected in tribute to the crew of the American plane that was shot down in Neuvy-en -Sullias on April 30, 1944, as well as to the people who helped one of the survivors. The image of the aircraft is printed on the plaque as well as the photo of Joseph F. Regan.

 

On April 30, 1944, B-17 #42-107012 crashed into the town of Neuvy-en-Sullias after being shot down by enemy fighters during a mission. This incident resulted in the deaths of seven crew members. Two of the three members who survived were captured by the Germans while the remaining one managed to escape.
