1Lt Frederick G. Aurel Memorial
Details:
On the south side of the road.
A stone marker serving as a plaque containing a commemoration message for 1Lt Aurel that is written in French in engraved lettering. On April 21, 1958, the Saber of 1st Lt Frederick G. Aurel, returning from a training mission, suffered a reactor failure. Rather than eject and let his F-86H crash into the village, 1Lt Aurel chose to stay on board and took his plane away from the village. 1Lt Aurel and his plane crashed in a field a few hundred meters from Rosières en Haye. As a token of gratitude, to remember the pilot's sacrifice, the villagers erected a statue of the Virgin Mary, along with a commemorative plaque, which was inaugurated on August 14, 1958.
