PFC Alver Memorial Inscription

A large upright hewn stone inscribed listing the names of the local World War 2 dead which includes Sigvald Adolfsen Alver, a Norwegian-American, who served in the US 99th Infantry Battalion (Separate-Norwegian). The 99th Infantry was a unit made up of primarily Norwegian-Americans many born in Norway.  

 

PFC Alver was born in Alversund, Norway in 1906 and later immigrated and lived in Minnesota.  He was killed while serving with Company C, 99th Infantry on October 22, 1944 during the Battle of Aachen.  He is buried in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial in Belgium.
