Affixed on the left side of the semicircular wall of the military square.

Plaque

A rectangular white plaque with a simple inscription containing a commemoration message that is written in French. The plaque was inaugurated in 2017. A la mémoire du First Lieutenant George H. Steed, tué,

et du Sergent Carl E. Transhina, grièvement blessé,

de l'équipage du bombardier américain tombé en Forêt de Sénart

le 8 février 1945

au retour d'une mission sur le Rhin,

pour la libération de l'Europe.

 

 

English translation:

 

In memory of First Lieutenant George H. Steed, killed,

and Sergeant Carl E. Transhina, seriously wounded,

crew of the American bomber which crashed in the Sénart Forest

on February 8, 1945,

returning from a mission on the Rhine,

for the liberation of Europe.
