General Tadeusz Kościuszko Monument
Details:
On the grounds of the US Embassy.
Statue
A metal bust atop a one-meter-high white pillar commemorating Tadeusz Kościuszko, who was born in what is now Kosava, Belarus. Although Belarus did not exist as a country while Kościuszko lived, Belarus recognizes him quietly as a "great son of the Belarusian land," based on his birthplace. Ambassador George Krol donated and dedicated the monument in July 2005
Kościuszko took part in the American Revolutionary War as a Colonel in the Continental Army. An accomplished military architect, he designed and oversaw the construction of state-of-the-art fortifications, including those at West Point, New York. In 1783, in recognition of his services, the Continental Congress promoted him to brigadier general.
