<< Back to Fuboheiwa Memorial Park

Details:

The left-most monument.

Monument

The monument consists of a large rectangular block featuring granite panels containing the history of “Fubo-noHi” and a large boulder on the top bearing a rectangular plaque with a commemoration message including a bible verse. The inscribed history on the panels below the hewn stone reflects the volunteers' dedication to honoring the memory of the 34 U.S. Air Force personnel who died on Mt. Fubo during World War II and their commitment to promoting global peace. The creation of the "Fubo-no-Hi" monument and the establishment of the "Fubo Peace Memorial Park" symbolizes a tribute to the fallen soldiers and a legacy of peace. The involvement of the Mayor of Shiroishi City, Mr. Kando Aso, in providing calligraphy for the monument underscores the communal effort and the heartfelt intentions behind the project, emphasizing themes of eternal love and world peace.

The History of "Fubo-no-Hi"

In September 1961, a group of volunteers set out in the quest to articulate respect and condolences for the souls of 34 U.S. Air Force personnel who perished on Mt.Fubo during the Pacific conflict phase of World War II, as well as to pursue the lofty ambition of peace for all of mankind. They formed a coalition christened "Fubo-kai," and collaborated to erect the "Fubo-no-Hi" monument.

At this time, with the completion of "Fubo Peace Memorial Park," and in the interest of renewing the legacy of our predecessors at this sacred location, we have prepared a replica of the cast metal epitaph on the monument erected near the foot of Mt.Fubo at that time, for installation at this site. It warrants mention that, in the Fubo-no-Hi Monument Commemorative Magazine published in September 1961, it is stated that the Mayor of Shiroishi City at the time, Mr. Kando Aso, furnished the calligraphy letters for "Fubo-no-Hi" mounted on the original monument. It is further noted that Mayor Aso applied his brush for the purpose of this inscription in the spirit of mounting appeals for "eternal love" and "world peace."
