<< Back to La Hague Commercial Building

Details:

Affixed on the north wall outside the bakery.

Plaque

A rectangular black plaque written in French in gold lettering honoring SSgt Padula who died during the liberation of Greville-Hauge on June 30, 1944. On that day, the 9th Infantry Division was engaged in heavy combat as it moved through the region near Cherbourg, pushing to capture strategic points in the Cotentin Peninsula. SSgt Padula likely died in the course of these intense operations, which involved close combat with German forces resisting the Allied advance. His death came as part of the broader efforts to secure the Cotentin Peninsula following the D-Day landings.

Note: On the plaque, his name is spelled as Dominick while on his headstone it is Domenic.
