<< Back to Tessy-Bocage Saint Peter's Church

Details:

In the front yard.

Plaque

A rectangular black plaque honoring the soldiers of the 29th and 30th Infantry Divisions who liberated the former commune of Tessy-sur-Vire on August 2, 1944. The plaque features the insignias of both divisions and is inscribed in French.

On August 2, 1944, the 29th and 30th Infantry Divisions coordinated their efforts to dismantle German defenses during the Allied breakout from Normandy. The 29th Division reduced German strongholds at Moyon and Percy while advancing on Tessy-sur-Vire, supported by artillery and armor, forcing German forces to withdraw. Simultaneously, the 30th Division attacked Troisgots, applying complementary pressure that enabled a combined assault and secured the liberation of Tessy.
