On interior side of the north wall of the cemetery. Monument A dark plaque on a grey granite stele with French text.  From April 1918 through January 1919, an American medical unit affiliated with the Mt Sinai hospital of New York ran Base Hospital #3 in nearby Vauclaire in a 14th century monastery building.  Of the 9127 patients treated in the hospital, 172 died and were temporarily buried in this cemetery.  The monument, installed on 22 Oct 2000, honors their memory.

A la mémoire des 172 soldats Américains venus server la cause de la liberté, morts en 1918 a l’hôpital militaire de Vauclaire.  Ils reposèrent ici, le souvenir reste.  22.10.2000

English Translation :  In memory of the 172 American soldiers who came here to serve the cause of liberty, and who died in the Vauclaire Military hospital in 1918.  They rested here, their memory remains.  22 October 2000
